The New Year’s Resolution 2.0

There is something about the new year that is so inspiring about a new year. A fresh start. A second chance (or third, or fourth…). Every January, I am encouraged to re-amp my ‘goals’ list and set my bar higher. I know that there are some people who have completely lost faith in the ‘New Year’s Resolution’, but I want to encourage you to stay positive. So what if your new resolution only lasts until the end of January? That’s one month where you lived as a healthier/happier/more organized/stronger/smarter you! The important thing is not to give up if you have a tiny set back, but to get up and try again.

This year, I decided to do things a little differently than I normally do. Instead of setting a couple of major goals, I’ve elected to set myself one overarching theme. This year, 2018, is for me. This means I will spend more time doing the things that make me happy. I will practice saying ‘no’ to the things that drain me, and refuse to spread myself too thin with over-commitment. I will devote more time to blogging. I will try my best at everything I do, and that will be enough. By setting a ‘theme’, rather than a resolution, I take some of the pressure off. Instead of risking failure, I can look at every baby step I take as a small success.

In the spirit of my ‘theme’, I decided that now was as good a time as ever to make a big change. I’ve always wanted to go blonde, but always chickened out because I was afraid that people wouldn’t like how it looked. But I took the plunge, and I LOVE it! Every time I look in the mirror, I’m reminded that I am bold and strong and capable of making my own decisions. It’s a pretty great feeling, and I encourage you to make this year about you as well, because we all deserve it.
