This weekend, my mom and I were given an excuse to spend the day in the city (Detroit, that is). We are always looking for fun ways to spend time together without breaking the bank. This past weekend, some close family members had to go out of town unexpectedly and had purchased show tickets that they were going to be unable to use, so they called us and asked that we put them to use. Of course we happily obliged and decided to make a full day out of it.
While in Malibu (more on my trip to Malibu here), we were able to squeeze a free day into our busy schedules to relax and explore. There was no debate about where we wanted to go, and we all piled back on to the bus and set off for Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean.
On our cross county trip (more about that HERE and HERE if you’ve missed it), we stayed in dorms on Pepperdine University’s campus in Malibu, California. Pulling up to campus was a breath of fresh air after sitting in traffic on the PCH. Not only was the campus breathtakingly beautiful, but it also meant that we would be able to stay in one place for a few days. Prior to arriving at Pepperdine we had been on a tour bus for about a week, staying at a new place every night and living out of our suitcases. Pepperdine immediately became our beautiful home away from home.
Having been out of town for a couple weeks (and having missed Mother’s Day), my mom and I decided that it was high time for a ‘girls day out’. So, on Friday morning, we rolled out of bed (a little later than expected), and headed downtown. The weather has been unseasonably warm here, and we decided that we couldn’t let this lovely weather go to waste and headed to the Detroit Zoo.
Things are finally starting to slow down after my cross-country trip this past week, which means that I finally have time to share some of the things that I’ve seen and done with you! Though it’s a little out of order, I thought that the best place to start would be the Grand Canyon.
